Grounded Portrait: Johanna Norrman
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do/ who you are :)
Johanna: I run a fashion rental service together with my co-founder Annie Thorell, called It's Re:Leased. We provide more value & variation to your wardrobe without exhausting neither yours or the planets resources. By renting the parts of your wardrobe you would otherwise only wear a few times, we increase the number of uses per garment while provide you with more options to choose from without taking up any extra closet space. There is no need to own what you will only wear a few times anymore - fashion is supposed to empower & inspire us, not deplete us & Mother Earth.
What does yoga mean to you?
Johanna: It took me years to appreciate yoga. Literally more than a decade, it was a frustrating process for me and I struggled with finding meaning. I never felt challenged physically, and it was a moment of truth each time I was on the mat: my thoughts ran crazy and I was unable to focus. Hot yoga changed that for me completely. My mind slowed down - much like it does for me when I'm by the ocean - and I could finally find a way in to my body. I found the mind-body connection, that has now become crucial for me to function in everyday life. It is true self-care, right then and there I take perfect care of both my body & soul.
Do you have a favorite studio/ retreat you want to share with us?
Johanna: Starting a business means very limited resources haha, so for a year now I've enjoyed hot yoga at SATS which I have to say, has been truly great. I think there's something to the fact that it's not a studio that takes the pressure off for me, so I care less about if I'm doing it perfect and more about the feeling right then and there, in my own body.
Pls share your best tip on how to stay grounded on and off the mat.
Johanna: For me, it never works with focusing on the breath. But if I focus on my body touching the mat, that gets me centered every time. So I will close my eyes and feel my feet firmly on the ground, or feel gravity pulling my chest towards the mat and so on. Where are my hips, am I holding tension there? Can I feel my shoulder blades right now? Those kind of questions gets me grounded.
